The Mummy’ – First Movie in The ‘Universal Dark Monster’ Series

Despite starring Tom Cruise in the movie, The Mummy could not overtake the box office collection of the ‘Wonder Woman’. The movie made a disappointing start with $32.2 million, whereas the movie itself costs $125 million after so many rebates.

It didn’t come up with the expectation of being the first entry into the universal’s monsters-themed Dark Universe movie series. The movie was released in India on Friday.

The box office collection was started with just Rs 12.5 crore over the weekend. However, the movie performed far better overseas by collecting $141.8 million from 63 markets. This was Tom Cruise’s one of the best international openings!

It is directed by Alex Kurtzman and the other actors starring in the film are Courtney B. Vance, Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Javier Botet and Russell Crowe.

The story is about an ancient princess who is a big threat to mankind after waking up from beneath the desert. Tom Cruise in the lead, is responsible for stopping her and destroying her power in the movie.


‘Wonder Woman’ proved to be a tough competition for this movie. The Mummy was no match to the Wonder Woman in any way. Wonder Woman, in spite of being the first individual woman, pleaded superhero film, actually did wonders in the box office collection.

Generally, other superhero films drop down to 60% in their second week of their release. Wonder woman with the lowest of all drops decreased by just 45 % in its second week of release. It is directed by Patty Jenkins. This Sunday, it crossed the $200 million mark.

Its foreign collection is totaled to $230 million which ended up being $435 million globally. The other movies in the top five list, giving competition to the movie are Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, ActionPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Guardians of the Galaxy vol2.

‘The Mummy’is fashioned as an action movie unlike the previous movies ‘Mummy’ starring Brendan Fraser and ‘The Scorpion King’. On the other hand, Universal executives believe that The Mummy’s global collection is quite impressive. It is one of the best opening films in 46 markets all over the world.

  • Some of the bad reviews included: The movie is utterly boring and a mess for introducing new creatures very quickly. It seems as if a really bad video game pictured in the form of a film.

The concept of turning The Mummy into a princess is not being welcomed by the viewers but some spectators are still admiring the movie.
